It is important to know that all job descriptions include cleaning of classrooms and sharing other cleaning duties with the center as a whole. Teachers will be required to change classrooms and hours as per the direction of the director or assistant director without notice based on the needs of the center.
Lead Teacher
The hours for this position vary based on the needs of the center.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children
- An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children
- An associate's degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children
Key responsibilities:
- To offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both the individual and the group
- To interact with the children and to encourage their involvement in activities
- To prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing and permits the child to grow and explore
- To plan with the assistant teacher, weekly lesson plans based on a curriculum outline, and to provide aides with the opportunity to have input into the program
- To establish and maintain excellent communication with parents through parent conferences twice a year and as needed, and on a daily informal basis
- To observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior
- To use appropriate and positive discipline and to train aides so that discipline is consistent
- To maintain all records and files
- To keep the director informed of program goals and developments both with children and parents
- To attend monthly staff meetings and informal lunch time gatherings
- To inventory supplies and equipment needed for the program and fill out appropriate forms requesting such items
Reporting relationships:
- Reports to the director on any staff matters
- Reports to the director on matters that relate to the children, parents, program or anything center related
Limits of authority:
- May take action without informing: Assign aide responsibilities within the program; change a scheduled daily activity; change room arrangement; discipline a child (to be in line with discipline policy); discuss child's activity with parents
- May take action but must inform director: Informing parents about a sick child; change curriculum for program; leave the building with children
- Must have prior permission to: Transfer a child to another class; remove a staff person; order new equipment; release child to unauthorized person; take time off; referring parents to outside resources
Requirements:
- A degree in early childhood education or related field. (An associate's degree and two years of experience may be substituted for this.)
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
- Evidence of emotional maturity and stability
- Evidence of sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively
- Physical stamina
- Ability to recognize and to record significant individual and group behavior
- Ability to supervise aides and other personnel
Must provide the following documents prior to commencing employment:
- Health assessment / TB test
- PA DHS child abuse clearance
- PA state police clearance
- FBI fingerprint clearance
- NSOR clearance
- Proof of education / copy of diploma / copy of transcripts
- Two reference letters
- Mandated reporter online training
Time commitment:
40-45 hours per week

Assistant Teacher
The hours for this position vary based on the needs of the center.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training.)
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children
- A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in §3270.31(c.)
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years of experience with children
Key responsibilities:
- To interact, initiate and encourage the children in the activities during the day
- To help the children control behavior using a positive, appropriate approach; making sure that the techniques are consistent
- To provide nurturing, but to help the children become independent
- To promote integral learning during meal times; to help the children learn appropriate social skills
- To maintain good communication with parents and to make each parent feel at ease at the center
- To assist the teacher in planning activities for the group and to offer suggestions and information about the children
- To develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the classroom
- To assist the teacher in record keeping by passing on observations regarding the children's health, behavior and development
- To attend monthly staff meetings and weekly lunch discussions
- To aid the teacher in the maintenance of the classroom as a clean, organized and interesting place for the children to spend time
Reporting relationships:
- Reports to the head teacher in regards to all happenings within the classroom (curriculum, daily sheets etc.)
- Reports to the director in matters of school related inquiries
Limits of authority:
- May take action without informing: When conducting a program as planned
- May take action but must inform: Any unusual incidents or accidents if head teacher is absent; when disciplining a child (please refer to discipline policy); when discussing a child with a parent
- Must have prior permission to: Change planned activities; change of work hours; setting up meetings with parents; express a viewpoint contrary to the lead teacher's viewpoint
Requirements:
- Associate's degree preferred; however, may substitute for 2 years of experience in working with children
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children
- Evidence of enough security and judgment to handle a crisis situation
- Evidence of emotional maturity and stability
- Sensitivity to children's individual needs
- Ability to use appropriate and positive discipline
- Dependability

Aide
The hours for this position vary based on the needs of the center.
Qualifications:
- An aide shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate
- A minimum of an 8th grade education and enrollment in a training curriculum described at § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training). The classroom training portion of the curriculum shall be completed
- Documentation of completion of classroom training and continuing enrollment in the training curriculum shall be included in the staff person’s file
- A minimum of an 8th grade education and 2 years of experience with children
